'OBJECTIVE: To produce a report showing the trend for all injury crashes in London over the two year period 2006 to 2007, grouped by quarter and severity.

You should start creating this sample on the Select Report page, which appears immediately after logging on to MAST Online.

Creating the report

1. Click the thumbnail entitled Crashes Blank Report located under the Crashes heading.

The Edit Report page appears, displaying a column chart for all UK injury crashes by calendar year.

2. Click the Save Report As link located near the top of the page.

The Report Name box appears.

3. Click inside the Report Name box, then type a name for the report into the box.

Once there is a cursor in the Report Name box, you can type a report name of any length you wish.

4. Click the Save As link, then click OK when the Report Saved message appears.

Your report has now been saved.

5. Click the Select Report tab at the top of the page, then click Yes when the Save Changes to Report message appears.

The Select Report page reappears, with your saved report displayed under the Crashes heading.

Grouping crashes by severity

6. Click the thumbnail corresponding to your report located under the Crashes heading.

The Edit Report page reappears.

7. Click the Grid report view tab located above the chart.

The report view changes from a chart to a data grid, with each year shown in a separate row.

8. Click the Columns (Series) report area tab located under the chart.

The Columns (Series) report area tab is now selected, with the Measures button visible beneath.

9. Click the Add Dimension button located under the report area tabs.

The Add Dimensions to Series dialog box appears, displaying a list of dimension names.

10. Select the Crash Severity dimension from the list, then click OK.

The Crash Severity button is now visible under the Measures button, and the report now shows crash data grouped by severity with KSI, Slight and Total crashes shown as separate columns.

11. Click the + symbol located to the left of the KSI column heading.

The KSI column expands to show Fatal and Serious crash severities separately.

12. Click the Save Report action link located near the top of the page, then click OK when the Report Saved message appears.

Your changes have now been saved.

Filtering crashes by crash location

13. Click the Filter (Slicer) tab report area tab.

the Filter (Slicer) report area tab is now selected, so the Measures and Crash Severity buttons are no longer visible.

14. Click the Add Dimension button.

The Add Dimensions to Slicer dialog box appears.

15. Select the Crash Location dimension from the list, then click OK.

The Crash Location button is now visible beneath the Filter (Slicer) report area tab, indicating that the report currently includes All locations.

16. Click the Filter symbol located at the right hand end of the Crash Location button.

The Edit Slicer Axis Item dialog box appears, displaying the folder for All crash locations.

17. Click the + symbol located to the left of the All folder.

The All folder expands, displaying a set of folders which correspond to each country of the UK.

18. Click the + symbol located to the left of the England folder.

The England folder expands, displaying a set of folders which correspond to each Government Office Region of England.

19. Click the check box located next to the R_London folder.

A tick symbol appears in the check box, showing that the London Region has been selected.

20. Click OK.

The Crash Location button now indicates the report is now filtered for crashes in the London region.

21. Click the Save Report link again, then click OK when the Report Saved message appears.

The latest changes have now been saved.
