Introduction to MAST
The Market Analysis and Segmentation Tools Project (MAST) supplies web based data analysis and customer insight to road safety practitioners across the UK.
MAST Online is a multi award winning web based data tool which affords practitioners easy access both to national crash data, and to profiling information about the communities in which people involved in crashes reside. It is widely recognised as an indispensable tool for road safety professionals who aim to design and implement intelligence led interventions.
The concept for MAST was based on an acclaimed spreadsheet based solution originally created by the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership. Development of MAST was funded by the Department for Transport along with local partners. When TVSRP ceased operations, MAST Online was transferred to Road Safety Analysis.
MAST contains road crash and casualty information for the whole nation, alongside socio-demographic insights into communities using Mosaic Public Sector. Because successful intervention delivery requires understanding of both the issues and the intended audience, MAST can facilitate decision making and planning to reduce casualties and increase efficiency. Users have complete control over the information they wish to look at and how they wish to categorise it. Reports are displayed instantly in both chart and datasheet formats, which can be freely saved and downloaded for further use as required.MAST fulfils the UK government's strategic intention to
“provide an online database combining accident and socio-demographic data … [to] allow ready local analysis of collision statistics by social and geographical groupings.”

Access to MAST is provided to many public sector road safety professionals under broad licensing arrangements with organisations including the Scottish Government, GoSafe Wales, the Highways Agency, Transport for London and Transport for Greater Manchester.
